LACEY BAKER WINS WOMEN'S STREET FINAL AT $100,000 SLAM CITY JAM
August 27th, 2006CALGARY (Sunday, August 27th,2006) ––American teenage sensation Lacey Baker today captured her first North American women's Street title at the $100,000 Slam City Jam professional skateboard championships at the Calgary Corral at Stampede Park.
Baker, a 14-year-old from Covina, Ca. who is sponsored by Billabong, Element, Venture, Utility Boardshop, Es and Bones, scored 89.00 points in the Street final to win $2,500 US in first-place prize money. A bronze medallist at this year's X Games 12 in Los Angeles, Baker edged out Vanessa Torres of Modesto, Ca., who finished second with 83.50 points.
Defending Slam City Street titleholder Amy Caron of Los Angeles was forced to settle for a fifth-place finish with 74.50 points, behind No. 3 Lauren Perkins of Huntington Beach, Ca. (82.25) and No. 4 Marissa Del Santo of Chicago (79.00).
The Women's Street final is being followed by the Women's Vert, Men's Vert and Men's Street championships Sunday evening.
